“There Will Be Food Scarcity From January 2017” – FG Tells Nigerians

In a statement made available to journalists yesterday in an interview granted on a Kano-based radio station, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, raised alarm over imminent famine in Nigeria from January 2017.
cornThe presidential spokesman said the Ministry of Agriculture has advised President Muhammadu Buhari on the need to draw the attention of all Nigerians to the issue which, if not addressed promptly, could lead to a shortage of grains by January.

The statement reads:

“The huge demand for our grains in the global market is creating an excellent environment for the mindless export of Nigerian grains across our borders and unless this is curtailed, Nigerian markets will be bereft of food by January next year,”

“Over the past year, providence has blessed Nigeria with a bountiful harvest of grains, more than enough to feed the country and to export to other countries.

“At present, there is a high demand for grains from Nigeria, from African countries as distant as Libya and Algeria, and from places as far away as Brazil.

“However, the Ministry of Agriculture has raised concerns about a massive rate of exportation, which could lead to a shortage of grains in Nigeria by January,”

Some ministers don’t actually know what their duties are and as such i think the Federal Government should make sure their duties are defined for them as soon as possible……………..
Knowing too well from the above that there has being more export of grains from Nigeria to other African countries which tends to affect Nigeria some time to come, i think is better proper things are done and on time to curtail such export in other to save for tomorrow.

So over to the farmers and government.

That sounds like good news to the farmers and bad news to the consumers. If our local consumers are busy exporting the food we should be buying from them then let the border be opened for rice to be brought in. We cannot be suffering of shortage whilst our local farmers are busy selling to foreign markets at the expense of our own needs.
